Copyright and Licensing
Open access
Sapiens in Higher Education publishes all content through Diamond Open Access under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International. Full text is free, permanent, and embargo-free for readers and institutions. No prior authorization is required for uses permitted by the license.
Users may read, download, copy, reproduce, distribute, print, link, translate, adapt, and reuse articles for any lawful purpose, including commercial use, provided that authorship and original publication are properly credited, the license is linked, and changes are indicated.
Copyright ownership
Authors retain full copyright. Ownership is not transferred to the journal. Upon acceptance, authors grant Sapiens in Higher Education the right of first publication and a non-exclusive, royalty-free, irrevocable, worldwide license to edit, publish, communicate, reproduce, distribute, index, and preserve the article.
Authorization includes author-owned text, tables, figures, datasets, and supplements. The journal may convert content to PDF, HTML, JATS XML, and formats needed for access, interoperability, and preservation without changing scientific meaning.
Attribution and reuse
Proper reuse identifies authors, title, journal, year, and DOI, links CC BY 4.0, and indicates changes. The license does not permit false endorsement or legal or technological restrictions that prevent others from exercising the same rights.
Third-party material
Authors identify material they do not own—including photographs, scales, instruments, maps, screenshots, tables, and figures—and obtain permission when law or the source license does not permit reuse. The source, rights holder, and terms appear in the caption.
CC BY 4.0 does not automatically cover expressly excluded material. Image rights, privacy, trademarks, and personal data are respected, especially where minors or members of educational communities appear.
Versions and self-archiving
Authors may deposit the submitted manuscript, accepted manuscript, and published version in institutional or subject repositories, academic profiles, and personal websites without embargo. Each deposit identifies its version and, after publication, includes the citation and DOI of the version of record.
Data and supplementary materials
Data and supplements are published under CC BY 4.0 unless another compatible license is stated. Ethical, legal, and contractual restrictions are disclosed. Article publication does not authorize data uses incompatible with consent or transfer rights authors do not hold.
Agreement and corrections
Before production, authors accept the publication agreement and warrant originality, ownership, permissions, and authority to grant the license. A material rights or licensing error suspends publication or requires a clearly linked correction.
Rights in university instruments and third-party material
For articles using educational instruments, institutional tables, software, classroom photographs, screenshots of learning platforms or teaching materials, authors document ownership or reuse authorization and explain exclusions from the article's license. Adapting a protected instrument may require the owner's permission; attribution alone does not automatically confer that permission.
The publication agreement must reflect copyright retained by its holders, the article's CC BY 4.0 open license and the journal's non-exclusive right of first publication. The platform and PDF display license, rights holders, DOI and any excluded components to avoid misleading reuse permissions.
Permissions and attribution integrity
Authors submitting photographs, scales, educational instruments, software screenshots, institutional charts or third-party figures must establish their rights or identify a lawful exception. Attribution alone is not a substitute for permission where reproduction is restricted. For identifiable people, image-publication permission is separate from research-participation consent and must be checked before release.
Repositories and first publication rights
Authors retain copyright while granting SIHE a non-exclusive right of first publication under CC BY 4.0. The journal imposes no embargo on self-archiving the published version. Circulating versions identify their editorial status and, once available, link to the version of record through its DOI.
